Gary describes his personal style as “dramatic”. “I try to look different,” he says. “I used to wear a lot more black, but now I’m trying to wear more colours.” We see him doing just that with his outfit today, throwing a boat hat, a sling bag with playful multicoloured detail, and a sand-coloured pair of brogues into his ensemble. The jolly Scottish has been in Singapore for over a year for work. “I like it here,” he says. “I like Southeast Asia, tropical countries, and the climate.” Gary is currently working as an IT consultant which, though not his dream job, is up to the mark, he feels. “I don’t love the job, I like the money,” Gary shares jokingly. “My hours are also very flexible, and there’re lots of down time.” When he’s not busy, Gary can often be found travelling across Southeast Asia. He’s been to Phuket, Thailand and the Philippines, and shares that he’s already planning his next adventure. But when Gary’s not up and away, he enjoys simply relaxing and resting at home. “Sleeping’s my thing.” To those just entering the workforce, Gary’s biggest tip to achieving a work-life balance — again in jest — is to not work for a Japanese bank. “They work all the time!”
