“Comfortably conservative” is how Richard describes his personal style. “My outfit has to be durable, lightweight, and sensible,” he says, listing Uniqlo as his favourite haunt for basic items, and Nike for comfortable footwear. Richard hails from Sydney, Australia, and came to Singapore to be part of a new F&B venture which, though challenging, he thoroughly enjoys. “I love hospitality, travel, and meeting new people. I get to do all of that here, some of it for work, and some for pleasure.” His goal for the coming year is to continue growing the business, pushing it to greater heights. “It’s been a steep, but very enjoyable, learning curve — things I took for granted back home don’t necessarily apply here!” In his free time, Richard enjoys reading — his favourite book is “Underworld” by Don DeLillo — and losing himself in good music. “I like anything from classical to jazz, hip-hop to tech-house, ‘80s pop to Latin grooves.” The best piece of advice he’s ever received is to learn how to say no. “My ex-boyfriend enforced this upon me, after I learnt from my mother that it’s best to say yes to everything because you can always say no after.” It seems like this has struck a chord close to his heart, and if Richard could speak to his 16-year-old self, he’d offer the same advice. “I’d also tell him, “Be confident in your choices, and know there are no wrong decisions in life.””
