Namgay hails from Bhutan, and while the country is known to have the highest happiness index in the world, we realised there was so much more that we didn’t know about it. For example, Namgay shares that English is Bhutan’s second language, while their citizens are mandated to wear their national dress, which consists of a long skirt and an inner thin jacket worn with a second jacket, to work. “The long skirt is mostly hand-woven, and the material for the two jackets is typically silk. We Bhutanese love our national dress,” she says. “But when I am abroad for seminars and workshops, like today, I prefer blazers or cardigans over a skirt or pants, most of the time with a black pair of heels.” As a lawyer, Namgay finds darker colours to be more acceptable for work as a brightly-coloured dress can be quite a distraction in the courtroom, but her off-work style consists mainly of jeans and t-shirts. Namgay appreciates the fact that her profession seeks to deter people from creating disharmony in society, but being a lawyer demands commitment, hard work and passion, which inevitably encroaches on her leisure and family time. “It’s imperative to always be aware of what you are doing and analyze if what you are doing is the end goal that you are pursuing.” Namgay would love to travel the world and experience different cultures, or possibly run her own restaurant with great food, ambience, and hospitality. For now, though, she reads books in her spare time, and watches TV series with a good theme. “The knowledge and exposure that one can get through television shows are magical, at least for me,” she says. “Apart from that, I love decorating homes and most of my time is spent rearranging my room.” She also believes in living in the moment and being as kind as she can be to anyone. “I think that living a king-sized life without benefiting others is a waste of your precious life.”
