Gordon believes that dressing well is a form of respect to the people he meets. “Employees in my company are free to wear whatever they deem to be appropriate for work. However, I’m in the Sales team, so I need to dress professionally when I have to conduct a seminar or when I have appointments with merchants.” Gordon says that he would have been a tailor if he wasn’t working in e-commerce, and is a fan of quality fabrics, clean lines and classic-proportions with contemporary styles and cuts. “Say no to contrast trimmings and colourful buttons for your shirt. Embrace the fabric in all its glory, not milk it for all its worth. Less is always more,” he advises. “If you’re not comfortable in your clothes, you’ll never look good.” His favourite part of his current job is being able to meet owners of different businesses and consulting them about moving into e-commerce. “It’s interesting to see the rising trend of the retail industry in Singapore, with consumers moving from offline to online shopping,” he says. “I also have awesome colleagues with awesome amenities in the office which makes me look forward to working every day.” Gordon says there are no wasted journeys in any career, and you shouldn’t despise small beginnings. “Take every journey as a preparation for promotion, and surround yourself with good friends who will sharpen and build you up.” Outside of work, Gordon says he’s always on the hunt for good food in Singapore. “I love to eat and eat and eat. My favourites are mee pok (from Seng Kee Bak Chor Mee and Macpherson Bak Chor mee) and Hokkien Mee (Geylang Lorong 29 Hokkien Mee and Nam Sing).” A firm believer in making full use of his 9-6 work hours and organising family dinners at least once a week, Gordon says he’s a big supporter of Manchester United and never misses a live match. He’s also a fan of vinyl and often spends his time in record stores, adding to his collection; otherwise, he tries to cycle around Singapore once a week. “Singapore has got a large interlinking network of park connectors that I can easily hop onto with my foldie bike. I especially love the new Coney Island trail.”
