Vertically Speaking

Taking a 90-degree turn from the timeless horizontal, we’re going vertical. Whether it’s broad strokes or skinny lines, there’s a stripe to flatter any figure. We already know that vertical stripes streamline the figure, elongate the silhouette, or, when strategically placed, hide some flaws, whether real or perceived. But we also like how visually arresting these black and white stripes are, pared down with a plain black top, or matched with culottes or straight-cut pants. Add a slick of lipstick or a bag in a contrasting colour to brighten up the look, and you’re set to stride.
