Suffianah works in finance, and explains that the industry has strict dress codes that one should adhere to. “It’s a male-dominated industry, and women need to be careful when it comes to choosing clothes. Save your low cut tops and showing off your legs for the weekends; before you climb that corporate ladder, you need people to take you seriously.” Fortunately, the stern dress code does not bother Suffianah. “Modest outfits don’t always mean boring and frumpy,” she says. “Aim for quality pieces and an overall sharp, professional look, and opt for timeless pieces of jewellery like a pair of diamond studs or a tennis bracelet. I tend to favour tailored dresses, knee-length pencil skirts, silk blouses and high-waisted trousers.” She also maintains that style is more than what meets the eye. “Confidence, charisma and the ability to carry intellectual conversations is also essential.” That belief also forms Suffianah’s favourite part of her work — getting to meet different people with interesting perspectives and challenging questions. Her least favourite part, on the other hand, is churning out reports; she wishes someone would invent a device that allows her to translate thoughts to paper. In an alternate reality, Suffianah would be a director of a movie; one of her hobbies is reading books about evil people in history. “I have all these interesting plot lines in my head that could make a good movie!”
