Revelations
Hien says that she used to dress much more colourfully in the past, and although it’s partly for her job’s sake that she’s mostly in black and white nowadays, she’s come to a deeper revelation about clothes as well. “I loved the bohemian style when I was younger. I guess I liked to have bold and exciting colours to show my confidence and positive energy, but now, I’ve come to realize that I don’t need too much effort to prove who I am,” she says. “I believe that confidence, grace, and elegance are really an attitude. Clothes or accessories are just there to bring out what you possess from within, not to change, replace, or fill in what you do not own.” It seems that Hien is still a free spirit at heart, however; her dream would be to move to Paris and surround herself with paint and easels. “I love the vibe of the city, and nothing can excite me and calm me down at the same like brushes, canvas, and colours.” Hien loves “going to bed in one city, and waking up in another”, and when she was offered a job here in Singapore, she jumped at the chance. For now, though, she’s still searching for her “career’s ultimate destiny”. “Many people get comfortable in one field of work for their entire career. But I wonder, sometimes, how many of them really enjoy what they do, or are they just too afraid of change?” she says. “As for me, I like to try new things and challenge myself.”
