Do you have a favourite artist?
I’d say one of my favourites is Alicja Kwade. Her dreamlike installations and sculptures completely bend perceptions of time, space and materiality. She stretches, breaks and plays with common materials like rocks, mirrors, and glass to the point where giant rocks appear to float through mirrors and merge into one, and thick wooden poles and metal beams lean on walls and melt like fabric—it’s mad.

Share with us an exhibition you visited and liked.
I enjoyed the National Gallery’s recent exhibition on Juan Luna and Raden Saleh. It’s quite something to have all these works in collections in the Netherlands and Spain come back to the region after years or decades, though it’s sad that this is the first time we really get to see these works. I also really liked Para Site’s current exhibition, “A Beast, A God and A Line”. It’s a sprawling exhibition on the movement and migration of people, objects, ideas across Asia and the Pacific, though I wish I could have spent more time there.

What’s something you want to achieve in the next five years?
I’d love to move to another city and work abroad. It doesn’t even have to be so far. Bangkok, Sydney, Hong Kong are all great places and it would be fantastic to be a little nomadic for a while, and to be unstuck in my ways.

What songs or artists do you have on repeat now?
Right now it’s Cardi B’s and Theresa Wayman’s latest albums, and I’ve also been listening to lots of Anderson .Paak, SZA, Kendrick Lamar and Khruangbin as well. As for my staples, Mariah Carey and George Michael are always on a Spotify playlist—the cheesy saxophone in Careless Whisper is just so good. (laughs)

What imaginary creature do you wish actually existed?
A kitty-puppy Frankenstein hybrid. Society will no longer need to be divided on whether you’re a dog or cat person—you can be both and get the best of both worlds!
