Tell us about yourself—what do you do?
I’m a student. I’m just about to enter high school, and I’m visiting Singapore on holiday. I just visited the National University of Singapore, I like the environment there and the people I met were very nice.

Share with us something about Guangzhou, where you’re from.
It’s a very accommodating and relaxed place. Life there is quite laid-back, people usually get up late and have a leisurely breakfast.

Do you have any favourite books?
I’ve been reading a lot of work by Zhu Ziqing, who was a poet, essayist, and a pioneer of modernist writing in China. I like that he could present complex ideas in a way that was interesting and easy to understand without being boring.

What’s a dish that best describes you?
La zi ji (辣子鸡, or ‘spicy chicken’), which is a Sichuan dish of chicken stir-fried with dried chilli, peanuts and spices. The heat and spice represents me well because I’m very passionate about things.

If you could live in a movie, what would it be?
I’d choose any comedy, because I like making people laugh. It’s just my personality, I like to smile—it’s infectious and can make others happy.
