The Personal Touch
Tell us about your tattoo—what does it mean?
It’s actually my Chinese name! My name is Chin Chin (晶晶), so I took the characters and made them more graphical.
What’s the most memorable project you’ve worked on?
I worked on furniture design for cats two years ago, and I’m currently working on an art show for cats which will be taking place next March.
What made you decide to switch from graphic design to user experience design (UX)?
I believe design should ultimately serve the end user. With graphic design, we used to always approach a piece of work from our own perspective as a designer, but with UX, we get to speak to the users and cater the product to them to ensure it meets their needs, which is something that I find important and that was missing for me before.
If you were a crayon, what colour would you choose to be?
I’d pick black, although I’m all dressed in light colours today. (laughs) It’s very versatile and easy to match with most things, and I’d like to think I’m like that too.
What are some of your comfort foods?
I have a sweet tooth, so I’d say cheesecake.
