My Fair Lady

Here’s something you don’t see every day: someone dressed so quintessentially lady-like, with the full works: demure crochet dress, contrasting knit cardigan, sensible, well-polished shoes, and a string of pearls to top it off. Selene reminds us a little of Audrey Hepburn, given a modern update with a short, boyish crop that adds a little bit of sass to the sweet. Selene hails from Shanghai, and has only been in Singapore for a week, but says she’s excited to be here. Out for lunch with a newfound friend and colleague from work, Selene might not be at the centre of attention in every room she walks into, but there’s a quiet, unassuming confidence that we can’t help but feel drawn to. Moreover, she sweetly and determinedly tries to answer our questions (asked in halting Mandarin) in English, to the best of her ability, and we learn that she’s studied the language before moving here for work. Classy, but driven and independent — our favourite kind of woman.
