Introduce yourself.
I’m Ash! I’m a software engineer in the cybersecurity field, and I’ve been working in this job for the past three years. I majored in electrical engineering, but I’ve always loved computer science and software engineering, so it’s something I picked up on my own.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I like to work out a lot, so bodyweight training, gym, things like that. I’m currently training for HYROX.
I’ve done HYROX once previously as part of a relay. It was tiring, but it was a great experience. I love the community, everyone working together, and just seeing them push through and achieve something. Everyone’s very motivating, and we all push each other. It’s a very positive community.
Wow, all the best! How often do you train?
I train about three times a week, together with my friends. Before HYROX, I used to train five to six times a week, and then I dropped fitness for a while.
Now, to get back into my fitness journey again, HYROX is one of the activities I chose so that I can achieve something for myself.
Do you have any other fitness milestones or events that you’d like to accomplish?
I recently started running because with HYROX, you’ve got to be good at running to get better timings and all that. And my running sucks!
I used to be a sprinter growing up, throughout high school and all, so endurance training is different to me. I’ve recently started running with my friends again, outside Marina Barrage, to slowly get back into it.
Any advice for those who want to start their fitness journey but are hesitant to do so?
I would say it’s something you can do for your physicality—learning to push the boundaries and understanding your body. It doesn’t have to be HYROX, but working out in general, just staying healthy and staying fit. It’s not just for your present, but it would help you later in life too, as you age. It’s really about consistency, keeping up that routine and being comfortable with it, while learning more about your body and what you’re capable of.
