Dream A Little Dream: Jun Okamoto At Audi Fashion Festival
Presenting both his Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2013 looks, a certain romance permeated the air at Jun Okamoto’s show. With the delicate, lo-fi ambient sounds composed specially by local musician Aspidistrafly setting the tone for the show, it was only apt that pieces showcased, possessed that whimsical quality.
Silhouettes were relaxed, deconstructed and layered with finesse, with cotton and jersey the materials of choice for the Spring/ Summer pieces, while colourful patterned tights sporting hand-drawn illustrations sat well beneath the pastel tones and sorbet hues. According his point of departure for both collections to imagined narratives, it was only befitting that models waltzed down with forlorn, contemplative gazes fixed upon the distance, as if inhabiting characters from books by Haruki Murakami or Banana Yoshimoto – two of his favourite writers.
Transitioning into starrier terrain, the Fall/Winter collection was replete with flickering landscapes and beautiful, aurora-like hues. Knits were also keenly featured in the form of snoods and jumpers, while men sported woollen jackets that sat with such precise nonchalance on the body, it was mesmerizing. Beautiful, lightweight, yet innovative, we can see these pieces holding up great in our clime.
