A Step Ahead
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I play golf leisurely, and have done so since I was young. Although people associate it as a game for old men, it’s actually very mind-challenging because if one shot goes wrong, your whole game will be affected. So you need to have a lot of willpower and know how to bounce back from your mistakes.
If you had all the time in the world to do anything, what would it be and why?
I’d read. I’m reading Warren Buffet right now, and I just finished Jack Ma’s book about Alibaba. I want to read about Elon Musk, who’s the CEO of Tesla and founder of PayPal. He’s my role model.
How did you develop an interest in finance, which is what you’re studying right now?
I didn’t know anything about it when I was in year one of school, but I went for a talk that mapped out my career options, so it was effective in helping me choose my major. I chose strategy as a second major to expose me to consulting as well, so that my career options aren’t so limited.
I’m also interested in entrepreneurship.
I’m currently working part-time at the Singapore Management University’s Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where we listen to the pitches from start-ups and match them to mentors. I also used to run a small start-up that sold açaí and smoothie bowls.
Describe your style.
I look at (YouTuber) Jenn Im for inspiration, and comfort’s the key for me. I like to wear pants because I can walk however the way I want. (laughs) I like dresses too because I don’t have to think about how I’m going to match my clothes.
