Ahnushka is a lawyer in training, and is studying for her upcoming bar exam. Although she hasn’t quite joined the corporate world yet, she’s spent some time interning at law firms and so she gives us her take on office dress codes, saying that they can be tricky sometimes. “There are times where I think something looks professional, but it might be frowned upon by some co-workers/HR because of strict workwear guidelines. There was once I got chided for pants that were folded up, showing my ankle bone, as per the design. I was quite baffled by that!” Ahnushka describes her personal style as elegant and classic, with a tinge of eclecticism. “Basically, I dress for the occasion or for the venue. And as my mom always taught me, carriage is everything! If you carry your outfit well, you’ll pull it off and the battle is won.” Ahnushka says she would love to shop for a living, or work in a woman’s fashion magazine if she were more creative, and cites several strong, fashionable women as her role models in life. “I like Victoria Beckham, and Queen Rania of Jordan. I think they’re amazing individuals,” she says. “Beautiful, smart, powerful, fashionable, elegant, and truly making a name for themselves in this world!” Ahnushka is preparing herself for the long working hours that come with being a qualified lawyer, and for now, when she isn’t studying, she loves spending time with her family and friends, and also making sure she has time for herself. “I think having me-time is healthy and important for one’s sanity and individualism,” she says. “I’ve learnt that sometimes people will let you down so you have to know how to depend on yourself.” And while she says that the Harry Potter books are her all-time favourites (“Think I’ve read each book about 5 times and have felt the magic each and every time. Nothing quite like it!”), she says she’s living by this quote from Jack Kornfield’s Buddha’s Little Instruction Book. ‘“In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.” I think one philosophy that I try to live by right now is to bring light and love to those around me. It’s hard to do (and I don’t know if I’ve done a good job of it yet!) but I think it’s the best gift I can give to people.”
