Character Study
Local theatre is – understandably – Brendon’s soft spot. “When people find out I’m an actor, they’ll inevitably ask, ‘Is there any good theatre in Singapore?'”, he shares. “Yes, there is! Singapore’s local theatre scene has never been better.” He recommends attending shows by Wild Rice, Dream Academy, Pangdemonium, and Skinned Knee, “companies that I’ve either loved working with or would love to work with,” he continues. “All of them employ local talent – who are very, very good – and produce new plays by local playwrights from time to time.” Also a loyal supporter of the local music scene, Brendon lists up-and-comer Gareth Fernandez (his brother, fyi), and Vanessa Fernandez’s (nope, not related) electronic music duo, Octover, as his favourites. Any other interests? “I like plants, but have a tendency to murder them,” he deadpans. “You know how they say you should talk to your plants? Don’t believe it. Every plant I’ve named and had conversations with has died. Only one plant so far has lasted more than a few months. I didn’t name that one.” Brendon was previously spotted here.
