Coast To Coast

As with all Shentonista shoots we go on, we tend to stray away from large, touristy crowds, often choosing to duck away in shaded alleys and quieter streets in the hopes of bumping into other like-minded souls looking to escape the noise of the city. But the one day we decide to brave the hustle and bustle of the Merlion Park, we were pleasantly surprised to find Even.

She was snapping photos of the Singapore skyline with her sister when we approached her, and despite the language barrier between us, she shyly accepted our request to photograph her. In between shots, she revealed that she was here for the first time on a family holiday, and that they were just about to wrap up their three-day trip and head home to Chon Buri, Thailand, a province set on the country’s eastern Gulf of Thailand coast. There, she would resume working as a nurse, while planning her next getaway in her free time.

As her family was waiting to spend their last few hours soaking in the warmth of Singapore, we quickly wrapped up our shoot and brief conversation and bade Even and her sister farewell, before trudging along our way, the rush of a quick, serendipitous shoot a timely respite in the brutal heat.
