Introduce yourself!
My name is demostar, and I’m in a hyperpop collective called SCUMBOYS with my friends. We like to make music together, and we’ve been active for a couple of years now. We have a new project that is currently in the works, so that’s really exciting.
Cool! What first got you into music?
I guess I kind of picked it up for fun, and it grew into its own thing. I’ve met a lot of like-minded people through it, but even so, I feel like for the kind of stuff that I make and that SCUMBOYS makes, we don’t have that big of a home in Singapore. That said, we’re getting closer together—the four of us. The bonds have been strengthening really well, and we’re making our own home. It comes very naturally to us, and it’s what we want to hear and what we want to make.
It’s nice to hear that you’re carving our your own space with your little community here in Singapore! What are your future goals for SCUMBOYS?
I would love to tour with my boys and bring them overseas and stuff. They’ve been working really hard, and I love all of them. Shoutout to ITCHYNAPPER, Vyn, Jumble, and of course, all the other friends we’ve made along the way!
Never underestimate the power of a strong community! Who are some artists that you look up to?
I do really look up to my friends actually, rather than big artists. You don’t have to be big or famous or whatever to have great qualities. Everyone has great qualities.
Amen to that! On that note, what’s one piece of advice you’d give to anyone looking to pursue music, especially in a more niche genre?
I think music is a canvas for what you’re doing in life and everything, so don’t be afraid to do something that’s a little different. The key thing is to enjoy yourself, enjoy making things with the people around you, and treasure your friends.
