Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Shane, I’m a graphic designer from Johor, Malaysia, but I’ve been working in Singapore for almost 20 years now. My hobbies and interests are drawing, photography, travelling, and music.

A creative through and through! How did you first get into graphic design?
When I was a child, my neighbour’s sister taught me how to draw. It became my hobby, so I started drawing my own cartoons and lifestyle stuff like food. I carried on doing this as I grew older, and this is now not only my hobby, but my job as well.

Do you do more hand drawing now for work, or digital illustrations?
Both hand drawing and digital. I’m a freelancer actually, and I manage social media accounts for restaurants. All of the advertising, photography, and sometimes branding is done by me.

What’s your favourite part about design?
My favourite part is getting to create something, and also meeting customers and working to communicate things with them through the stuff that I create.

Why did you decide to move to Singapore?
Singapore is quite international, so I thought it would inspire me with all there is to see and all the different kinds of people there are to meet. I also wanted to learn from the people here, especially in terms of technical skills and the culture.

Do you go back to Malaysia very often?
Yeah, I go back about once every two weeks.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work then?
I go café hopping, meet friends, and watch movies. I also take photos and videos of the things that I do because it’s still my hobby even outside of work.
