Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 25, a Taurus, and I work full-time as an executive assistant, but I also sew dresses and write as a hobby.

Cool! What kind of dresses do you sew?
I started learning sewing in 2023. With that skill, I’m trying to start my own sewing business. I sew 1940s dresses, and my personal style typically is a bit vintage, but I’m dressed down today.

What’s been the hardest thing to pick up in terms of sewing?
Actually having to turn my ideas into reality; having to figure out the how.

What made you want to pick up sewing specifically?
Truthfully, it’s because I was unemployed around two years ago, so it was a way to make some income for myself then.

Have you started selling your pieces?
Not yet, but hopefully soon!

Here’s wishing you all the best! How did you discover your personal style?
I’ve always been into the 1940s vintage style. I’d go to thrift stores like the one at Bencoolen and try to find pieces that I like.

What about fabric sourcing? Is it hard to find the specific fabrics that you want to use for your pieces?
For sewing it’s quite hard. Usually I go to Chinatown, but there are not a lot of textile choices for the pieces I have in my mind.

You mentioned you also write!
Yeah, but that’s just for fun. I enjoy creative writing.

Have you always been into the arts?
Yeah, I feel like I naturally gravitate toward the arts. My boyfriend’s also been a big influence when in terms of music since he’s a bassist and likes hanging around the Substation area.

How did you two meet?
We actually met through Hinge, but we like to make up stories of how we met. The latest one is that he asked for my lighter at a smoking corner (laughs).

How chic! What’s one lesson that you’ve learnt this year?
One big lesson for me this year is realising that if I really want something, I can just go for it. For example, I moved out last year, and that showed me that when I put in the effort, I can make things happen, even if it means juggling three jobs to get there.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself or in your life ever since this happened?
I’m more free to express myself and I get to live the life that I want.

What’s one goal that you have for next year?
I have a few goals—I’d like to get my riding license, launch my sewing business, have at least $10,000 in emergency savings, and pay off my student debt.

Finally, what are you looking forward to most?
I’m looking forward to more creative pursuits and actually following through with them.
