Just One Thing

Any new year’s resolutions?
I’m trying to wear more colours this year, and to read more. I tried to read a book once a week last year, so I’m trying it again.

I’m currently reading:
If I Could Tell You Just One Thing by Richard Reed. It’s a compilation of advice from all the people who are the best in their industries, like media, banking, politics, military etc. I like non-fiction, self-improvement or motivational books.

If I could tell anyone just one thing:
Don’t let your career define you.

How’s work?
I’m in this programme where, every 6 months, you change departments. I’ve been in wealth management, corporate banking, and risk management. I like wealth management as I think it’s very personal. You are your own client, in a sense.

I think everybody should plan for the future.
You can start with knowing where you stand. Most of my peers, including myself, keep a record of where we are today, financially, and where we expect to be in the next 12 months and the future. One thing that I’ve learnt, being in the banking industry, is that you shouldn’t save to save, but learn to save to invest.
