Tell us about yourself!
Oh, here’s a fun fact: I think everyone knows this, but the only fun thing about me is that I love going to parties for the music. I just really love music in all forms, whether live, at home, or in my own room. I collect vinyls as well!
What’s your go-to drink at parties?
I always go for a gin sour, but I do like a shot of tequila on the side sometimes.
Good choice! What’s the best place to get a gin sour then?
Oh my gosh, I guess my favourite bar is Offtrack because I’m always there! I always order their Satin, which is, I would say, a gin sour. So shoutout to Offtrack because I just love that place so much.
Speaking of parties then, tell us about some of the recent parties you’ve been to.
I was in Kuala Lumpur for New Year’s—at W Kuala Lumpur, to be exact, where we got the best view of the fireworks from a tourist’s perspective, because we were right below the Petronas Twin Towers. There were also two Singaporean DJs, Irvin and Tax, that performed there that night.
Another memorable one would be Sunda Festival because I literally connected with so many people there. We kept saying we’ll definitely go back this year and maybe do the full camping or clamping experience.
Back to music now—do you remember what the very first vinyl was in your collection?
Oh. wow. Well, I started my collection during COVID because I was bored and my dad was fueling my hobby at the time (laughs), so my first vinyl was probably something from Tame Impala or Arctic Monkeys.
I knew I wanted something classic from when I was a teenager, something I would listen to front to back. But probably my favourite one that I collected within that era was the Jamie XX In Colour vinyl, so this is why it made sense for me to see him in concert when he came to Singapore on his world tour last year.
So nostalgic! Where do you usually get your vinyls from?
Oh, my God, when I travel, every city that I go to, I need to buy at least one as a keepsake. In Singapore though, I used to go to Hear Records a lot when I first started collecting because I think they have a really wide range, but I actually bought my latest one from Swee Lee. It was a birthday present.
Let’s talk a bit about the work that you do then.
I’m a campaign manager at Time Out Singapore, and I’ve been working here for two years now, after Chinese New Year. I love it so much that I actually do see myself staying for another three years at least.
I really enjoy my job because it’s also my first full-time job. I was a fresh grad before this, so it’s my first time earning adult money full-time. My colleagues are great, and I like how there are lots of opportunities for us here, because this is a global company after all. The HQ is in London, so I’m able to work with colleagues from all around the world, from London to Australia and Hong Kong, which is really nice.
I also enjoy all of the events that we get to go to, because it’s just a bunch of creatives coming together. But that said, I’m no writer. A lot of people will ask me if I’m a writer just because I work at Time Out, but I’m always like “No, unfortunately not. I wish I was, but I’m just a campaign manager.” Basically., what I do is that if clients wants a feature in our publication, they’ll approach our sales team and I’ll help them fulfil these campaigns and make the feature happen.
Adult money sure is empowering! Do you remember what you bought with your first adult paycheck?
Probably a trip. I remember I was saving up for my Jakarta trip because I went to We The Fest in 2023. That was my first trip abroad after may probation, and I remember it clearly because it was the same year The 1975 was pulled from the lineup and replaced with A$AP Ferg.
Last question: if you could pick anyone, dead or alive, to have dinner with, who would it be and why?
Oh, wow, I’ve actually never thought about this, but the first person that comes to mind is a president, so I’d say Yusof Ishak, because girl, he represented the Malay community, so thank you! And can I add one more person? Halimah Yacob—my queen!
