Standing Out

Karyn would like to dispel some stereotypes about her work department. “People usually think we’re quite uptight and stiff, but we’re really not!” She admits she’s an exception in the industry,  though, where most people tend to wear just jeans and a t-shirt. “This is considered ‘dressed-up’,” she laughs. “But I think it’s important to bring your personal style to the office too, and to look presentable.” As such, Karyn looks out for timeless, quality pieces when she goes shopping, investing in things she can wear both to work and to go out in. “Simple, shift dresses are my staples. It’s only once in a while that you’d see me in a two-piece outfit, like today.” While Karyn seemed surprised when we first approached her, she was quite comfortable in front of the camera, possibly as the result of having just returned from her wedding shoot in New Zealand. “My husband is from New Zealand, so we wanted our friends and family to be able to experience the country in some sense,” she says. “The shoot was quite dramatic; we had it in the mountains, I was in my gown, it was super windy, and the photographer was standing quite far away and told us to act like he wasn’t there. But those candid shots turned out the best in the end.”
