Despite his towering and somewhat intimidating stature, Hilmi was in fact one of the most approachable people we’ve met. Wearing a huge smile the whole time, the man keeps to a neat and simple getup consisting of an oxford shirt, tapered jeans and sneakers. Additions like a leather cuff, watch and tortoise shell spectacles add subtle touches that elevate the look. Hilmi was one of the artists showing at the LASALLE booth at Art Stage, where his works incorporated stop motion animation with traditional painting. If he could be any character from a single piece of art through time, he would be the man jumping over the puddle in Henri Cartier Bresson’s iconic black and white photo.
