Tell us about yourself!
I’m Kojee, and I’m half-Japanese on my mum’s side. I speak Japanese to my mum at home while I speak English to my sister and dad. But most of the influence from Japanese culture I’ve been exposed to is through my colleagues at work, at the Japanese hair salon S.A.D’s Hair Design, now known as SENTTEN.
Can you tell us more about how you got started as a hairdresser?
I’ve been working and studying under the team at the salon for about three years now, and only recently converted to working there full-time.
Honestly, back when I first started, I was just looking for something to do. I got recommended to join the salon, and my interest slowly started growing from there. I’ve learnt a lot from my colleagues about hair care and hair in general, so it’s been a great experience.
What do you enjoy most about being a hairstylist?
I like seeing people happy with the hair colours or the hairstyles I give them. And also watching the way hair colours change with time and the general freedom of customers being able to change their colours to whatever they want.
What about you? Do you change your hairstyle or hair colour very often?
Not my hairstyle. I’ve been letting my hair grow so it hasn’t changed much at all. But I do colour my hair quite often and my favourite colour to dye it is pink.
Is this something you see yourself doing in the long run?
I hope so!
