Tell us what you do for work. Is it something you’ve always wanted to do?
I’m a Physical Education Specialist at EtonHouse where I teach preschoolers.
It’s a career that I’ve always been passionate about because I love kids! Being able to move around and interact with children is something I really enjoy.
What advice would you like your students to remember as they grow older?
I always tell my kids that it’s not about the speed in which they progress, but rather their will to get to their desired destination.
In life, we often feel the need to rush to the finish line, but I want my students to know that they will get there at their own pace as long as they work hard and believe in themselves—it’s something I wish my younger self knew too.
What or who inspired your style?
When I was younger, I was personally hesitant to make use of many colours in my outfits because I was of a bigger size. My mum, on the other hand, liked to dress me in different kinds of dresses and colours, and experiment with different hairstyles as well.
That spurred me to become more adventurous with colours after I lost a bit of weight. Now, I love to express myself in bright and bold colours, so much so that people are often surprised to learn about my job in physical education due to the way that I dress!
What is your favourite colour to wear?
Pink, HOT pink! (laughs)
Outside of work, what do you like to do?
I usually work on my own photography projects where my friends and I dress up to do photoshoots.
Another hobby I enjoy is dancing, but I haven’t had much time to attend classes now that I’m working. As such, I open my own classes whenever I’m free so that I can still enjoy dancing with others.
How did you find out about Singapore Art Week 2023?
I heard about Singapore Art Week from a friend who recommended we come down to SAM. I’ve also seen a lot about the event on Instagram and TikTok, so we decided to experience it for ourselves!
Since Singapore is so small and there isn’t much going on, I think Art Week is something we all look forward to (laughs).
What other forms of art do you enjoy?
I love music, so I enjoy anything to do with concerts and performances.
The last live concert I attended in Singapore was Khalid’s American Teen Tour back in 2018. It was held at Zepp@BigBox, a relatively small venue, so it wasn’t too overwhelming. I had so much fun! Khalid is a great performer and he sings really well live too!
What does your perfect weekend look like?
It’s changed quite a bit as I’ve gotten older. Now I enjoy the simple things like getting good coffee, catching up with friends, and spending time with loved ones.
Is there anything you’re hoping to achieve this year?
I’d love to explore something different and more creative this year, maybe pick up sewing since I love fashion.
