Kelly met her now-fiancé at a tuition centre 12 years ago, and they’ve been together ever since. “In a sense, I think we really grew up together. He was the one who taught me how to ride a bike!” she laughs. “We have wildly different versions of the story of his proposal. His involves dolphins and fireworks, mine involves sweatpants and a couple of redos.” The couple play mahjong once a week—an unconventional date night, maybe—if they’re not heading out for a coffee. “I can’t go a day without coffee, and my fiancé knows that. I’m always safer to be around after coffee.” Kelly’s work in the legal profession absorbs most of her time, though she’s keen to do a little something else on the side. “This year, I’m trying to think bigger than myself, and maybe I’ll find some courage to start a little project to do with sustainability,” she says. “It bothers me that even though we now live in a rather affluent society, we spare very little thought for the world that we are creating for our future generations. A lot of people among us don’t even bother recycling because it just requires less effort to throw things away.” Perhaps this green jumpsuit is her subconscious egging her on to kickstart this project; Kelly says that she’s actively trying to reintroduce a bit more colour into her largely black-and-white wardrobe, and we like the way things are shaping up.
