Scott seems to be a permanent style fixture in the CBD; we’ve bumped into him countless times, and not once has he been anything short of dapper. The one item from his wardrobe he can’t live without? “My handkerchief, because it’s so damn hot.” The charming, witty English is currently clocking hours in finance, although he hints that a change might be underway. “I kind of fell into the job and have been rolling with it since. I’ve worked since I was 16, and got introduced to the bank that brought me to Singapore when I was working part time during University,” he says. “At the time I wanted to do it, but I’m slowly leaning toward doing something more wholesome.” When he’s at work, Scott’s favourite chow is the Thunder Tea Rice from Lau Pa Sat. “The auntie knows my order off by heart: thunder tea rice, no rice, extra vegetables, extra soup plus $3 basil chicken. 11 bucks, boom.” Despite the hawker treats to be found in the area, Scott says his dream workplace would be somewhere away from the slate and grey of the CBD, “preferably surrounded by nature and greenery”. “Can I build an office in the wilderness? An actual jungle, not a concrete one.” For now, he’s settling for an adventure like no other. “For my birthday next year my buddy and I are going to try and survive on an island for a week, with nothing but a knife. Project: Survival.”
