Tell us a little more about yourself.
I’m a graphic designer, as well as an artist. I used to paint on bubble wrap, but I haven’t had the chance to go back to my art for a while now. I did it as part of my final year project, which now feels like a lifetime ago, and then it grew from there.
Do you think about returning to your art someday?
I do think about it, but it’s quite hard to juggle both graphic design and art—both the art and design industries in Singapore are quite small with tough competition, so you do need to dedicate a lot of time. I’d love to be a full-time artist, but you have to prioritise certain things at specific points in your life, especially if you’re in the middle of a pandemic, and I’d rather have the security of a full-time job.
What’s something that’s been bringing you joy lately?
I actually don’t know how to answer this question, because I’m someone who’s contented easily. Especially during this time, happiness for me is the fact that I can be together with my husband and my family. I have a friend who likes to ask what if questions, and one of the questions she asked was if I regret anything—and I didn’t have an answer for that, really. I’m someone who fully lives in the present, and I try not to think of any period as my life as the happiest. I like to think that I’m at my happiest at this very moment!
You shared with us that you’ve been married for a year now—what are some things that have changed for you since getting married?
I’d say nothing much, except the terms—calling him husband instead of boyfriend. I suppose it’s because we haven’t moved into our flat yet, so I think more things might change once it’s just the both of us. Once the chores and co-living part kick in, I might be able to answer this better (laughs).
Share with us something you appreciate the most about your partner:
Patience (laughs). He really does have all the patience in the world. I also treasure how humble he is and how he always sees the good in people.
If you had to pick one trait that makes you a good friend, it’d be:
I tell the cold hard truth.
