Middle Ground

You’re both a content creator and a financial consultant, which are two pretty different fields. Is there anything in particular that sparked your interest in both areas?
I did have other dreams—there was one point in time when I wanted to be a cabin crew, but I knew I always liked sales, so that narrowed down a few job prospects for me, which eventually led me to the financial consultancy world.

As for being a content creator, I kind of stumbled upon it actually. I was just having fun on TikTok, and people seemed to like my content, so I considered doing it long-term.

What’s the toughest part of what you do?
Being in the financial consultancy industry is already challenging as is, but doing business in a pandemic is harder. My mode of operation had to shift to Zoom, but thankfully now, with the easing of restrictions, I’ve started to do more in-person meetings. Also, it wasn’t easy balancing my time between school, financial consultancy, and being a content creator.

With content creation, I guess sometimes dealing with hate comments can be quite hard. You kind of have to put yourself out there and some people may like your content, but some people may not. You just have to stay true to what you believe in.

Tell us something that not many people would know about you.
I fractured my arm when I was eight, and I experienced an earthquake in Bali.

I was leaving school with my friends and there was a ramp; we all held each other’s bags and ran down the ramp like a train (laughs). That wasn’t a good decision at all. I was the last person, and when I fell, I used my right arm to cushion the fall, and the rest is history.

The earthquake on the other hand happened more recently in December 2018. I woke up in the morning at 9AM and everything was starting to shake. I checked the news, and found out there was a 5.5 magnitude earthquake. Initially, it was kind of nerve-racking—no one really knows exactly what to do in an earthquake. Thankfully, it was a relatively small one, so everything settled down pretty quickly.

What do you wish you had more time for in this life?
I wish I had more time to travel to every part of this world. The one place I’d love to visit most would probably be Iceland. I would love to see the Northern Lights—I think it’s such an ethereal sight, and it’s something that I’ve always wanted to be able to witness.
