Tell us more about where you’re from and what brings you to Singapore.
I’m originally from Hong Kong where I work in finance, but I’m in Singapore for a business trip.
Before COVID-19, I used to visit our office here every month, and Singapore was like my second home! We unfortunately had to close down the original office space here during the pandemic, so it’s my first return since. I’m happy to be back as I still love Singapore a lot, and I know my way around quite well.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
My favourite part of my job is meeting new people and getting to know them better. It may come as a shock, but being in people’s business is a big part of what I do.
What’s something that surprised you about the finance industry when you first joined?
I’ve been in this industry for over 20 years, and frankly, there are no surprises. The only surprising aspect I’d say would be the unpredictability of the volatile stock market, which is out of our control. We’ve felt its effects especially so in the last year since my company was investing in Chinese equities.
Do you travel often?
My work brings me to many places, including Thailand, Taiwan, China, USA, UK, and of course Singapore.
I love to travel for leisure too, when I have the time that is. I’ve already made plans to travel around Australia; I’m planning to go to Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne for a few weeks. In fact, I think everyone in Hong Kong is rushing out of the country now after spending three years in lockdown (laughs).
You’re quite a new mum, how has motherhood been like for you?
My son is a little under three years old—a COVID baby—and this is the first time we’ve been apart. But other than that, being a mum has been good! To be honest, I don’t find any difference between being a working mum and a stay-at-home mum.
Actually if you count my French Bulldog, Rocky, then I have two babies (laughs). He’s really attached to me, so obviously these couple of days are have been devastating for him.
Between my son, my dog, and my job, I’m swamped. I hardly have any free time for myself!
