Please introduce yourself!
Hi, my name is Jaslyn, but my friends call me Jas! I’m 24 this year and currently work as a junior creative!

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I love playing games! Some of my favourites are Stardew Valley, Valorant, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I had a PSP back in primary school, and that really sparked my love for gaming.

I’ve invested a lot of time into it—I’ve clocked over 1,550 hours on Stardew Valley just on Steam, not even counting my hours on the Switch! (laughs) But I’ve been a bit more disciplined with my gaming time lately!

Tell us more about your favourite anime. When did you start getting into anime, and what do you like most about it?
My favourite anime right now is Apothecary Diaries! I absolutely love the main character and the plot—the world-building and visuals are incredibly well done, and I’m just a huge fan of the overall production.

That said, my first anime was actually Naruto, which I watched back in primary school, though I was more of a casual viewer at the time. It wasn’t until polytechnic, when I became close with friends who were big anime fans, that I really got into it. They introduced me to Demon Slayer, and I was instantly hooked! I even went on to read the manga, and it quickly became one of my all-time favourites.

As an artist, anime has been a great source of inspiration for me especially during times of art block. The beautifully crafted scenes always reignite my creativity.

Speaking of art, tell us how you got into art and drawing.
I was never a strong student in subjects like math or science—I naturally gravitated toward language and humanities. I was always working on some kind of art project in school, but it wasn’t until secondary school, when art was offered as a subject, that I started drawing seriously.

I loved creating with paint and pencils, and over the years, I just kept practising and improving. That journey eventually led me to graphic design and digital art. Nowadays, I rarely use traditional mediums and have grown much more comfortable working on my iPad with an Apple Pencil.

Amazing! Tell us about a person, place, or a work of art that inspires you.
I’m always super inspired by Linh Truong. She’s a Youtuber and her content always manages to scratch an itch in my brain. I love seeing how she creates so artfully and in the many ways she does. Her videos, fashion/styling choices, traditional art, and more!

What’s your fondest memory from 2025 thus far?
Probably my recent trip to China with my boyfriend’s family! It’s the first time I’ve travelled with them long-term and it was super memorable! Although all we did was eat, shop, walk, and eat even more, we had really fun and meaningful conversations. It felt like a good getaway from the everyday hustle!

Sounds like a fun trip! If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I’d love to have dinner with Hozier! I’m a huge fan of his music, and he’s always come across as incredibly genuine, both in his artistry and as a person. I’m especially fascinated by how he weaves Greek mythology and biblical themes into his songwriting. I’d honestly love to just sit and listen to him talk endlessly about his creative process and the stories behind his songs!

If your life were a song, what would it be?
I’d choose DAY6’s Time of Our Life! It’s all about living in the moment and making memories you’ll cherish down the road. The upbeat, feel-good vibe never fails to lift my mood.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt this year?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt is the importance of slowing down. Before my current job, I was working a lot of events-based jobs which really took up a big chunk of my time and capacity. It was fun and rewarding definitely, but I really neglected a lot of my relationships with people and my own hobbies! So this year, I took a longer break in between jobs and really grounded myself before finding another job, making sure that I balance work and life better. Or at least, attempt to.

Finally, what’s one quote or motto you’d like to take with you into 2026?
There’s joy in the little moments! I’ve always had this mindset and I try to find joy even in the most mundane moments—making sure to keep life more fun!
