Hospitality
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What’s been keeping you busy lately?
I’m currently working in the hotel line, while waiting for art school to start. I’ve been trying to find some some balance between work and life, as I’m working in the hotel sector where things are really unpredictable, and it can get really tiring. I’ll be studying broadcast media, which is quite a big jump as I studied hospitality prior to this!
What do you do to find this balance between work and life?
Well, using today as an example, I just randomly asked my dear friend if she’d like to come side questing with me! I just got a new piercing, and our plan is to head into Haji Lane next to shop for some accessories.
You mentioned that you’ve shifted from hospitality to broadcast media for your studies; what sparked this change?
I’ve always had an interest in working in the arts & media scene for the longest time, but my results weren’t really good back when I tried to join the courses that would let me do that. When I started applying, I had thought about continuing hospitality at first, but I let the wind bring me to applying for this course that I got into, so yay!
What other passions or interests do you have that share that same creative vibe?
I’m really into music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, especially bands like The Beatles and Queen. Compared to today’s heavily digitised and modernised music productions, everything back then relied on physical instruments — and that raw, authentic sound is what it’s all about for me. Beyond music, I’ve also been doing some photography on the side, and I’m hoping to dive into some freelance creative projects soon.
Looking at how much your direction is shifting, what’s something your younger self would never have guessed about yourself today?
It’s definitely how I look now. Growing up in a traditional Asian household here in Singapore, expressing yourself alternatively can be seen as quite a taboo thing to do. My family was definitely a bit iffy about it when I first started changing my physical appearance. My younger self would be quite surprised with how I turned out!
