How did you first get interested in law?
I’ve always been a voracious reader and an avid writer. I figured I’d be putting those interests to good use. Of course, these are only the reasons as to why I took steps in the direction of a legal career. There are more important reasons pertaining to why I stayed, but that’s a story for another day!

If you could change something about the industry you work in, what would it be?
I would make it mandatory for everyone to take a kindness pill every morning before opening their emails.

We all have little occupational hazards, or habits we bring from work to personal life—what’s one of yours?
The legal profession has left me with a few oddball quirks! I tend to add caveats to my statements (a lot)  during ordinary day-to-day conversations, and there is the unfortunate habit of checking my emails every five minutes or so. I am also currently in a complicated relationship with tea—despite being hyper-sensitive to caffeine, I can’t let it go!

What keeps you going?
I try not to take myself too seriously! I also believe in the importance of having deep conversations, balancing exercise with late-night snacking and the indescribable power of forgiving oneself and forgiving others.

What’s something that you’ve been putting off from doing for a while now?
I’ve put myself on sabbatical! In the midst of our busyness, it’s easy to inadvertently find oneself worshipping at the altar of productivity. However, not all forms of striving are necessarily good. I believe in the wisdom of taking time off to recharge and recalibrate your goals. If we are to live graciously and with purpose, we need to be acutely conscious about why we do the things we do.
