 Lian Ting believes in keeping things simple, but with some sense of style. “I usually pair my dress with some nice high heels and lipstick,” she says. “I don’t think you should wear too many accessories because it shows you are trying too hard.” We definitely see the influence in her outfit today, and perhaps this applies to her working style as well, as she advises: “Be humble and hardworking, and learn as much as you can both at work and off work,” she says. “Don’t be complacent and stop learning. Continuous learning and self-improvement is key to success.” It’s a good thing then, that her job lets her do just that. “I love the great amount of learning involved in my work every day. That’s very cool,” she says. “I also love the speed things are happening, and the excitement of news reporting and speaking to intelligent people for stories.” Even when she’s off work, Lian Ting believes in being fully present and enjoying every single minute. “I like to talk to people from different backgrounds so that I can learn from them,” she says. “I’m a very curious person and I get excited about things or concepts I haven’t encountered before.” As such, Lian Ting is also a big fan of travelling, and says that if she wasn’t working as a financial journalist, she would be travelling the world and documenting her experience. She’s managed to find a good balance, with her work however; she spends all her holidays traveling, and most of her weekends reading up and recharging. We like that Lian Ting is an intellectual beauty with a true sense of style and purpose. As she quotes René Descartes, “I think, therefore I am.”
