Comfort in Clay
Tell us about yourself! What do you do?
My name is Nikki and I’m 22. I major in Ceramics and minor in Sculpture at NAFA. I’m currently in my second year of studies.
I really like ceramics! I got into it as I wanted to heal—I had really bad gastritis for awhile. I first got into ceramics by learning it at a studio, and became a studio assistant when the boss asked me to.
So ceramics isn’t just art, but also an outlet for your healing?
Yeah, it was really expensive, so I stopped learning it at the studio, and… I just happened to apply to NAFA. I found out they taught ceramics there and became interested in it again, so I continued. For the past year, I would do ceramics on and off. I really like the motion of doing it.
What else are you into besides ceramics?
I was a dancer for about one or two years, doing choreography and contemporary-inspired dance. One year ago, I was into rock climbing.
I like to go hiking as well, and went to hike in Nepal. I did the Annapurna Base Camp trek! It was quite a memorable experience—I soloed it and it was quite dangerous as it’s just one way up. But it taught me a lot of lessons, and I met a lot of cool and nice people.
