If he could, Andy says he would love to spend all his time creating “the most insane” bowl of ramen. A far cry from his current profession, but this desire to get hands-on and knee deep in whatevDIYer he does is also relevant to what he does now. “I love that I’m able to see through every activity or project, from planning to execution,” he says. “I dread the never-ending reports, however.” Andy works for Dr. Martens, and he’s clearly representing the brand today in signature, classic black lace-ups. He has 11 pairs of the sturdy shoe, in different styles, collected over the years; all part and parcel of dressing for the job. “Fortunately, my line of work doesn’t require me to adhere to a specific dress code, but of course it’s not very professional to turn up to work in shorts,” he says. “I think being comfortable and presentable is key when it comes to workwear.” His says that his current style is centered around well-made basics, such as this pair of 4-year-old jeans. “It feels good to have a wardrobe of clothes that you can easily pull out and put together. Maybe it’s a little lazy, but I’m just being practical.” When he’s not dreaming about the perfect bowl of ramen, Andy says that he tries as much as possible to keep work within the office and not bring anything home to do. “It might be difficult at times, but I think it’s not very healthy to be thinking about work all the time when you’re at home, or over the weekends.” True to his hands-on nature, Andy leaves us with a bit of advice that he’d like to give to anyone who’s just starting out at work. “The quickest way to learn something is to actually do it or figure it out yourself,” he says. “Be brave enough to take the plunge and try out new things.”
