Introduce yourself!
I’m Ting An, and I’m 23 years old, turning 24. I currently work in luxury fashion communications and client development, and doing a bit of marketing as well.

I’ve had a lot of experience in luxury retail but I’ve always wanted to do marketing. I also studied for a fashion diploma, so it’s always been my passion to work in the fashion industry.

How was working on the industry been?
Stressful! It’s not easy finding a job now. Even with my internship at Dior, it’s not as bright-looking or as glamorous as people might think, especially with how the market is nowadays.

I do think connections go a long way, and I’ve been lucky to sustain myself thanks to the people I’ve met along the way.

You studied fashion design too. Is starting your own brand something you’ve thought about?
It’s definitely my dream to start my own brand. But I feel like everyone’s starting their own thing now, so the market is pretty saturated.

That said, I do think Singapore has become much better at supporting local brands compared to a few years ago, although there’s always room for improvement. If I ever have the funds, maybe one day I’ll do it.

I’m really inspired by brands like Hyein Seo and Ann Demeulemeester. Those are the brands that really influence my design ethos, if I ever get to start my own label.

Are there any local brands you would like to promote?
Recently, I came across this brand called Guised at See See Look Look market. He makes leather goods, and I really like his work. I think his style is really nice.

What does life outside of work look like for you?
I like going to events. Or just planning what my hypothetical brand would be and fantasising about doing all the work.

The older I get, the more I enjoy staying in Singapore. A few years ago I found it quite boring, but with the local arts scene growing, it’s become much more exciting. Just last month there were so many events happening, like Mercury Fest and Konbini. It’s actually pretty fun being in Singapore!

That said, I still want more in life, and I know I can achieve more. That’s why I’ve been working so hard from 2025 into 2026. I’ve really been focused on growing and improving myself. The biggest thing in my life right now is growth—and of course, my friends. I love hanging out with my friends, but everyone’s overseas! Everyone’s moved away!

Have you every thought about moving overseas too?
actually wanted to move to Korea. But…I think the grass may just feel greener on the other side. I would love the opportunity to work overseas — maybe somewhere like Korea or Paris because of the fashion industry and the connections there — but I don’t think I’d actually want to live there. Right now, I’m looking for a job that allows me to travel regionally while still being based in Singapore.

A lot of my friends who moved overseas tell me they’re really lonely. They’ll call me and say they haven’t heard Singlish in so long, and I’m just like, “Girl, I got you!”
