Tell us about yourself—what do you do?
I work in customer communications for a health food brand, and I also teach at a boxing gym on the side. I was already teaching part-time at the gym while I was in university, and I came across the job posting via Instagram.
How is it for you managing a day job and teaching at the gym?
It’s been easy for me since they’re both in the same building, but generally I think that as long as you’re conscious about not over-exhausting yourself and committing to too many things it’s fine.
What are some ways that you find balance and recharge outside of work?
Learning how to say no is key. For me, I had to learn to not always be a people-pleaser; if getting enough rest means having to turn down social gatherings then I’d do that. It’s important to prioritise self-care.
What’s a health-related tip you can share with everyone?
I think a good way to improve our mental, emotional, and physical health is learning when and how to rest, taking time to be away from others, and just doing things that are restful for you. It could just be sitting by myself and staring at the sky for 15 minutes, or going for a walk in the afternoon.
If you could switch lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
Donald Trump. There’s so much news and information surrounding him that it’s hard for us to know what his daily life is actually like, so I’m curious about that. I’d like to take over his Twitter page—I’d probably post something like “having covfefe”! (laughs)
