For Arissa, having a monochromatic wardrobe makes life that much easier, especially in the mornings. “My brain isn’t wired to function very well in the morning,” she says. “Everything is black so it’ll match easily. I usually just throw on whatever I have access to.” She’s gotten her dress sense down to a pat, even on weekends, when she tends to dress more casually, but still makes an effort to look put-together. “I love maxi dresses and rompers cause you can just throw them on,” Arissa says. “Accessories like hats, necklaces, bags or sunglasses make the outfit more interesting.” So loyal is she to her colour palette of choice that if she had to opportunity to do whatever she wanted, Arissa says she would design her own line of clothes—all in black and white. The only colour she wears, it seems, is on her head: Arissa has dyed her hair in a myriad of shades, and cites a mint-green and pink combination as one of her favourites. “It reminded me of Paddle Pop ice cream.” She chopped off her waist-length hair after being inspired by style director and fashion icon Kate Lanphear’s short do, and hasn’t looked back since.
