Home Ground
I’m working as an interior and furniture designer, and I’ve been living in Singapore for about seven months.
I was living in Bangkok before this, and I decided to move here because my boyfriend is Japanese and we were thinking of living in an English-speaking country.
Where else have you lived besides Singapore and Thailand?
I grew up Melbourne, did my degree at the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States, and went to the United Kingdom for my master’s, which is where I met my boyfriend.
Did you have any difficulty getting along when you first met, coming from different cultures?
It was a little hard at first—being Japanese, he was super polite and reserved, but we got along fine.
What would your dream home look like?
It’d be modern and tropical, but not with too much wood because that’d make maintenance difficult. I like simple things with a twist.
You also spent some time working in fashion in New York—what/who are some brands or designers who you look up to?
Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, and Pronovias, which is a brand that designs gowns.
