Tell us more about where you’re originally from, and what brings you to Singapore.
I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia, and I’ve been living and studying in Singapore for two years now.
Are you enjoying your time in Singapore thus far?
I am! It’s a pretty small country, but there are many hangout places where I can have fun with friends. We like going to Tanjong Pagar and exploring the many little cafés there.
Was there anything that surprised you when you first moved here?
The food here is nowhere near as salty and flavourful as in Indonesia!
You’re an animation student here in Singapore. Tell us how you decided to pursue this field of study.
I became an animation student by accident (laughs). I say that because I picked the course when I was fresh out of high school and unsure about what to pursue. Animation sounded interesting to me, and to be honest, I thought it would be purely illustration-based (spoiler, it isn’t) so I really took a blind leap of faith!
That said, I didn’t expect to have so much fun animating, although it can get stressful at times.
How do like to spend your free time?
Catch up on sleep! I actually pulled an all-nighter recently because of submissions week.
I also enjoy reading, but it’s been a while since I had the time to pick up a book.
Give us a book recommendation!
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. It’s a heart-wrenching retelling of a Greek mythology about two best friends. It’s funny because once, my mum got woken up by me crying when I was reading it at 3 in the morning and she was like, “What’s wrong with my child?” (laughs)
