Shanice has a few items that she can’t live without. “My leather watch, leather oxfords and my leather satchel bag,” she says. “All in brown leather, which I love, because there’s a vintage look about it and a perfect balance between raw and polished.” Describing her style as mix between preppy and vintage with some bohemian elements, Shanice’s wide range of inspiration has greatly influenced her style. “I love Wes Anderson films,” she says. “I also think I have an old soul because I prefer the aesthetics of things in the ‘20s, ‘50s and ‘60s, for example. I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn, and jazz music. Ella Fitzgerald takes my breath away every single time. Also, the number one country I need to visit and explore is Morocco. That’s bohemian heaven right there!” she laughs. Shanice is working as a graphic designer while studying part-time for a degree in English & Psychology. “I love that my current job isn’t mundane at all, because I have to pick my own brain, every day,” she says. “I enjoy the creative process, especially when I reach that ‘eureka’ moment. I also love how my job allows me to meet people from different industries, because I usually get to learn something new from them.” It sounds like there’s a lot on her plate, but Shanice makes use of her trusty lists and schedule planner to find time for everything and everyone. “I think the key to how I juggle everything is knowing how and what to prioritise,” she says. “And of course, having the discipline not to procrastinate — well, I try! I usually set aside a day or two in a week to spend with my loved ones.” At the moment, this particular quote by Anais Nin resonates very strongly with Shanice: ‘We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.’ “I think that everything in life, what we love and what we do, is all about perception,” she says. “Sometimes, there is no clear right or wrong way about things, and I think if everyone understood this, the world would be a much more pleasant place to be in.”
