Barbara was hard to miss among the crowd. Her crop of platinum blonde hair accents the structural shoulders of her jacket, and she artfully balances the look by keeping the upper half of her outfit in shades of cream and blonde, and the lower half in black. We learn that Barbara is a true supporter of local, homegrown talent, as she tells us that almost every piece of her ensemble is from her homeland of Italy. With such a sharp sense of style, we presumed that Barbara works in the fashion industry, so we were surprised to find out that she’s actually working as an analyst in the finance sector — once again, refuting the many misconceptions and preconceived notions that we’ve harboured, even after all our years of photographing people in the CBD. Barbara immigrated to Singapore to be with her husband last November, and in her short time here, has found this country a joy to explore. “I especially love Peranakan food and culture and understanding it in my free time,” she says. “My favourite food would be curry fish head, from Peranakan Inn at East Coast Road.”
