David believes that personalising one’s style is really a matter of patience. “It’s definitely more fruitful if you’re willing to go to various retailers to explore what everyone’s offering and then try to put it all together yourself.” But no matter the design, David feels that every purchase should be sensible. “I try to look reasonably presentable at reasonable prices,” he laughs. “I come from a very, very modest background and my family was extremely frugal when I was growing up. That’s definitely stayed with me throughout the years.” On the other hand, David also reminds us to not pay sole attention to price tags. “I’ve been reading about cheap fashion, and how impulsive clothes purchasing has resulted in lower-quality fashion flooding the current market. Maybe it’ll be good to take the time to honestly consider the fashion purchases we make.” The New Yorker’s current job has him travelling often, but despite his busy schedule, David emphasises on spending time with family. “It may sound uncool, but you have to try to make time, especially for your parents.” While he now enjoys his job, David shares that he almost chose a different profession. “After I got home from my deployment to Afghanistan with the US military, I briefly volunteered to work with service members who had amputated limbs due to combat injuries. That made me seriously consider going in the prosthetics field — it was honestly a tough decision not to.”
