Dawn is at her first real job after she recently graduated, and says that adjusting to work at the beginning was a challenge. “The first 6 months starting on this first job was very tough as the learning curve was steep,” she says. “I’d start having Monday Blues on Friday nights — can you imagine?!” But the worst shall pass, she says. “Once you’ve settled in, things gets easier and Mondays get more colourful. There’s nothing I dislike about my work now; I love that I’m always learning as my role keeps evolving. It’s challenging as I’m working on an emerging luxury brand, but I always feel a sense of satisfaction & ownership when I see the brand grow. Besides, I have amazing colleagues that are great at what they do and are also super dedicated in taking the brand to greater heights!” She’s learnt to manage her work-life balance in small ways, such as not bringing her work laptop home over the weekends, unless she really has to. She also tries out new things in her free time,  like picking up golf, learning the drums, and playing DOTA, a multiplayer online game, which she says is highly addictive, even for a girl. “I spent the last two Saturdays at a LAN shop with some friends, playing DOTA,” she says. “I also love going for drunk karaoke sessions with my girlfriends. I have a drunk KTV crew and we take drunk KTV very seriously — we even have a drunk KTV group chat to ensure that we make our drunk KTV sessions happen regularly!” Dawn’s office used to be in Ngee Ann City, at the heart of Orchard Road, but now that they’ve relocated to a more industrial area, she’s allowed herself to have more dress-down days. “I used to always wear heels to work, but now I even wear slip-on sandals,” she says. “But I always have at least 5 lipsticks in my work bag, allowing me to jazz up any outfit — even slack ensembles — in a jiffy should the occasion call for it.”
