Introduce yourself!
My name is Darsya, I’m 19 years old, and I’m currently studying Creative Direction in Fashion at LASALLE.

What got you into fashion?
I’ve always been interested in fashion. It started in secondary school, you know those events like Youth Day where you can dress up? Back then people would come to me for inspiration, because I would dress up and they’d compliment me (laughs). I’d also help my friends with their fashion, like if they wanted to be more aesthetic and stuff. Anyway, I’ve always wanted to do something in marketing and journalism, so I thought I’d combine what I like and do fashion media instead.

Cool! So we take it you prefer the writing side of fashion?
Yeah, I love writing! I’m pretty basic and would say that I love publications like ELLE in general, because it’s slightly more on theme for me and in line with my interests. I also really like Dazed.

I collect magazines, so usually when my parents’ friends go overseas, I’ll ask them to get me some magazine to add to my collection, no matter the language.

You must have quite the collection now then! Who are some of your fashion inspirations?
I love Zendaya! I know it’s basic, but I feel like my style is more classy like hers. I feel like I don’t really go for bold styles, maybe just statement pieces at most. I like to keep it simple, especially in Singapore where it’s really hot. I also like Rihanna, but I’m not really into streetwear. I feel like my style leans more towards boho chic.

What are some of your hobbies outside of fashion?
I’m really into music. I’ve been into it since primary school, but I’ve never really pursued it. It’s more of a side hobby for me. I play the acoustic guitar and also the saxophone because I was in the concert band CCA in school. I also sing. I’m literally my own band! (laughs)

What can you not do? Do you still sing and play these instruments?
Yes I still do! Just that I don’t post any of it (laughs). Well, I started posting a bit of it, just for my friends, but we all start somewhere, right?

Who knows, we might see you on the big screen or stage one day! After graduation, what are some career paths you’d like to pursue?
Honestly, I want to get into journalism. I was also thinking of doing something with museums, like being a curator. I can definitely see myself in that industry. I guess advertising and marketing and fashion PR are also possible options. In terms of making clothes, I’nm not that good at it. If I wasn’t in fashion, I would probably do something like art therapy. I think the psychology behind it is very interesting. Either that or I’d be doing music. I also wanted be a detective when I was younger (laughs). So maybe if I can learn that…

You’re practically Barbie! Well, final question: what are some goals or resolutions you have for this new year?
I want to quit sugar for the sake of my health, and I’d say I’ve been doing pretty well so far! I love sugar, so it’s been pretty hard, but I’m quite disciplined right now. I’m locked in! I’ve also been going to the gym a lot. I also want to travel more and experience other countries. Just doing all these side quests, honestly.
