What are you currently doing?
I just started a part-time job at a headhunting firm after coming back to Singapore recently. I’ve been away for a while, so my mom said that it was about time to come home. I was away for about seven years—four years in Doha and three in Cape Town. I first moved to Doha when I was 21 as a flight attendant with Qatar Airlines, and I later moved to Cape Town just for fun.
Why did you stop flying?
I wanted to try out something new. I’m not quite sure if I really want to work in the recruitment industry, but it’s just something to pass the time till I figure out what I really want in life.
What are a few of your favourite comfort foods?
I love steak—in Cape Town it’s all about the good meat. I also love any local food that my mom cooks.
If I could time travel, I’d want to go back to:
The first moment when I left home. I was 21 and freaking out—I was very close to my mom, so it was very scary to leave home for so long. But given a choice I would do it all over again. If there was something I’d tell my younger self, it would be to stop overthinking, because that’s what I’ve been doing for too long. I need to learn to go with the flow.
What’s some advice you’d give to solo travellers?
Just do it, even if you’re scared. You just have to take that first step, and once you’re completely out of your comfort zone, you’ll realise that it’s one of the best things you’ve ever done.
