We hear you’re a dancer! Tell us more about that.
Yes! I teach street jazz at Danz People, but I personally do all sorts of dance.

How long have you been dancing?
I’ve been dancing for six to seven years, but I’ve only just started teaching for close to a year now.

How has it been transitioning from being a dancer to a teacher?
Kind of scary! I’ve always been interested in teaching once, but when I actually got the opportunity to do so, it was tougher than I thought. It took me a while to get used to it, but it’s been going well so far.

What is something you’ve learned about yourself through teaching?
I realised that I’m more patient than I think I am. I used to get worried easily, but lately I’ve learned to relax a little more.

What’s one genre of dance you’d love to revisit or try?
When I first started dancing, I did hip hop for a year, so I’d love to go back to that.

What do you love most about dance?
The feeling of performing—the adrenaline is what’s kept me going for so long. Other than that, I’d say it’s the people. Most of my closer friends are people I’ve met through dance. It’s really helped me open up more as a person.

How do you take care of your body?
I’m grateful (touchwood) that I’ve never sustained any major injuries, but on my rest days, I really rest and make sure that I don’t exert my body. I also stretch a lot by doing yoga, which really helps.

Oh! You do yoga as well?
Yes, I do enjoy practicing yoga outside of dance. That, and travelling.

What’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?
Switzerland! I love the cold, and I much prefer natural scenery to big cities. In fact, if I could live anywhere else in the world, it would be Switzerland, or really anywhere where life isn’t as fast-paced as it is here in Singapore, and where I can just kick back and enjoy.
