Introduce yourself!
My name is Belicia, and I’m a model from Singapore. I’ve been modelling for 2.5 years? 3 years now? And I actually got into this by chance! My friend told me to try out for an open casting, so I did it for fun and actually ended up getting signed, though I‘ve since left my agency and am now freelancing.
Cool! How has freelancing been for you?
It’s been good! I’ve been to a few different countries on my own for work, but more so to Korea.
What do you enjoy most about modelling, and likewise, what’s the toughest part of it?
I like meeting different people and getting to experience different things, because not a lot of people get the opportunity to do stuff like this, so that’s the fun part.
But on the other hand, rejection is the hardest part. I think a lot of people don’t talk about rejection because I don’t really see it online. It’s a negative feeling, but it’s also a part of the process.
How do you get over the pain of rejection? We imagine the first few time must’ve hurt more.
Yeah, of course. I mean, even until now, it still hurts sometimes, but I think it’s important to have a good support system, circle of friends, and outlet to release that negative energy.
Makes sense! How about burnout then—how do you usually handle that?
Oh, I’ve been burnt out multiple times. But the best solution is to go to therapy (laughs). I think that’s the best way you can really help yourself to move forward and be a better person.
Great advice! Do you see yourself modelling for a long time?
I think I will do it for as long as my body allows me to. Nowadays, there are mums and elderly people who are models, so I feel like nobody really gets to tell you what to do. At the end of the day, it’s really just up to you to do whatever you want in life.
Inspiring! Tell us more about the coolest or most memorable job you’ve done as a model.
I went to Korea for a campaign, and that was a big moment for me because I personally love travelling to Korea for leisure, so being able to work there and to work for a Korean designer brand that I personally love was a very big thing for me!
I was also invited to Paris Fashion Week this year, so that’s fun and exciting too!
Apart from this exciting happening, what are some goals that you have for this year?
Definitely to work more on my health, both physically and mentally. I feel like without the both of them, you won’t be able to move forward.
We agree. Do you have any wellness tips you’ve picked up in your time as a model that you’d like to share?
I think recently, I’ve learned not to put my body through so much intense workouts. You have to balance low intensity with high intensity workouts.
I’ve also learned the importance of eating and sleeping well. I’m a night owl for sure, but if my friends need me to be a morning person, I’ll still show up! My body is a bit broken in that sense (laughs).
